Youngkin Critical Of New Budget

Governor Youngkin criticized the recently passed General Assembly budget, labeling it as “backward” during a speech in Chesapeake. The budget, approved by the Democratic-controlled Assembly, didn’t include certain proposals favored by Youngkin, such as a sports arena deal in Northern Virginia. Youngkin vows to veto some bills, including one related to recreational marijuana legalization, citing concerns about its impact. The budget also rejected Youngkin’s tax proposal but it did seem to like expanding the state sales tax. The General Assembly will reconvene in April to address proposed changes.
