Virginia Poison Center Issues CO Case Increase Reminder

The Virginia Poison Center reminds residents that carbon monoxide poisoning cases greatly increase during the winter months mainly due to increased heating equipment usage. Carbon monoxide is often called “the silent killer” because it is colorless and odorless. The gas also comes from gasoline-powered engines and when wood, propane, charcoal or other fuels are being burned. Authorities say CO detectors should be installed in the same locations as smoke alarms.
