VDH Releases Quarterly Drug Deaths Report

A new report from the Virginia Department of Health finds drug overdoses remain the leading cause of unnatural death. According to 8 News those numbers are more than gun-related and motor vehicle-related deaths combined. Last year more than 76% of all fatal overdoses were due to fentanyl which is a synthetic opioid 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. Many fentanyl poisoning victims are unaware that fentanyl is in the substance they are ingesting.
