As the number of blood donors hits an all time low, the Red Cross has declared an emergency blood shortage. The American Red Cross says they are currently seeing the lowest level of donations in the past 20 years. Blood and platelet donations are urgently needed to alleviate the shortage, which if left unchecked, will cause disruptions in lifesaving medical procedures. Governor Glenn Youngkin himself donated blood last week in Richmond to acknowledge the growing shortage. Here in the United States, someone needs lifesaving blood every two seconds, and it can make the difference between life and death. The Red Cross is now urging everyone to make an appointment to donate blood or platelets by going to the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting https://RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
