Urbanna Water Rate Hike Took Effect Monday

Urbanna residents will see a 10% increase in water rates for in-town customers, as of yesterday. The base rate went up on July 1st from $45.22 to $49.74 for 6,000 gallons over two months, with a per-gallon increase from $4.20 to $4.62 for usage above the minimum. Despite the increase however, Urbanna’s water remains the lowest priced in Middlesex County. Town officials say that the hike is necessary for the town to qualify for grants and low-interest loans for infrastructure improvements. Out-of-town rates will stay the same at $83.08 for 6,000 gallons over two months.
