Urbanna Budget Meeting Held

The Urbanna Town Council plans to begin work on the FY15 budget at its work session on Friday. The meeting begins at 3:30 p.m. on the second floor of the town hall, and the public is invited.

The proposed budget contains no increases in the tax rates or water rates.

The real estate tax rate would remain at 24 cents per $100 of assessed value and bring in $274,000, compared with $265,000 in the current fiscal year (FY14). Personal property would continue to be taxed at the rate of 65 cents per $100 of value.

Urbanna property owners must pay town taxes in addition to Middlesex County taxes. The recently approved rate by the county for FY15 is 53 cents per $100 (up 5 cents) on real estate; and $3.50 per $100 on personal property.

The new fiscal year begins on July 1, 2014.

A copy of the proposed town budget is available for review at the town hall.
