Unemployment Rate at Pre-pandemic Level

Virginia’s unemployment rate fell to 2.6 % in August. This continues to be below the national rate, which increased to 3.7%. More than 4.2 million residents had jobs last month and there were nearly 2,000 fewer unemployed workers. Unemployment in August 2021 was 3.6%. Last month the private sector recorded an over-the-year gain of more than 110,00 jobs while employment in the public sector increased by 7,500 jobs.
