What is “Empty Bowls”?
It’s a world-wide phenomenon of potters working to end hunger by making one-of-a-kind bowls. We’ll pair with Mathews’ best chefs to fill those bowls with soup at the event in the gallery on December 7. Customers will buy the bowls and the proceeds go to Hands Across Mathews to provide food and assistance to the needy.
To make this happen, we need to make bowls! The Bay School will be hosting bowl-a-thons throughout the summer and fall, so potters can get together and throw or hand-build bowls. We will provide the clay so there is no cost to you (but of course if you want to bring your own you can). We’ll bisque fire the bowls here and then in the fall we will have a glaze-a-thon to cover them with color, and fire again.
There are several bowl-a-thons on the calendar. You don’t have to be here the whole time. You can make one bowl, or ten, or anything in between. We’ll provide some snacks.
