Strip Searches

An Appeals court in Va. heard argu­ments in two strip-search cases of peo­ple arrested and wait­ing for arraign­ment.

The 4th U.S. Cir­cuit Court of Appeals con­ducted the hear­ings Wednes­day in Richmond. The Mary­land case chal­lenges the strip searches of peo­ple arrested on minor charges and detained in an area sep­a­rate from the gen­eral jail pop­u­la­tion. The sec­ond case involves two peo­ple arrested in West Vir­ginia chal­leng­ing com­pul­sory strip searches and phys­i­cal delous­ing at the state’s regional jails.
