Virginia State Police are investigating the Tuesday shooting death of a Mathews County man. State Police say the Mathews County Sheriff’s Department received an emergency call just after 1:30 pm, and responded to the 180 block of Ballast Point Road, where they found recently retired Virginia State Police Master Trooper T.E. Hudson dead in a camper at the scene.
Police say Hudson had recently retired from the Virginia State Police, and he was working part-time as Mathews County deputy. Hudson was not on duty at the time of the shooting.
Hudson’s body will be taken to the medical examiner’s office in Richmond for an autopsy. The Virginia State Police Criminal Investigation Office in Chesapeake is processing the scene, and the investigation is ongoing. The Mathews County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation. State Police say there is no threat to the community and no suspects are being sought.
