Push On For Higher Min Wage

Democrats here in Virginia are continuing their push to hike the state minimum wage to $15 an hour. The legislation, if passed, would increase the minimum wage by 2026. It would happen in steps… rising to $13.50 in 2025 and then to $15 in 2026. The measure cleared the Senate and House committees on labor and commerce this week on party-line votes and is headed to the chamber’s money committees. Democrats however, may have the numbers to pass the increases out of the General Assembly, but they fall short of what they would need to override a possible veto from Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin. Whether or not he would veto it though is still up in the air. The governor’s spokesperson Christian Martinez said that Youngkin “will review any legislation that comes to his desk.”
