The current representative of the 1st Congressional District is Robert J. Wittman (R). The 1st Congressional District of Virginia is a congressional district in the commonwealth of Virginia.
Virginia’s 1st Congressional District is located in the eastern portion of the state and includes Manassas City, Stafford, King George, Carolina, Westmoreland, Richmond, Northumberland, King William, Middlesex, Lancaster, Mathews, York and Williamsburg City counties.
Incumbent First District Congressman Rob Wittman faces a challenge from within his own party’s ranks as Republican voters head to the polls this coming Tuesday to choose a candidate for the Nov. 4 general election.
Wittman, a Montross resident, has held the seat since 2007, when he won a special election to succeed the late Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis of Gloucester. He will face newcomer Anthony Riedel. Riedel is a Gloucester High School graduate and works as a public relations specialist at the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation. He resides in Williamsburg.
