Oysters On The Rebound

Efforts to restore oyster reefs in Weems are gaining momentum as two million oyster larvae begin their transformation into vital reef structures. Spearheaded by Friends of the Rappahannock, volunteers at the old Tides Lodge site are nurturing the microscopic larvae in water from Carter Creek. Over the next two weeks, they will grow and attach to oyster shells, bolstering reefs in the Rappahannock River and tributaries.
