New Charges for Abusive Parents

Both parents convicted and sentenced last year for starving their 6-year-old daughter and keeping her in a cage appeared in court Tuesday morning on new charges surrounding the death of their baby boy.

Brian and Shannon Gore, who are each serving 30 years for aggravated malicious wounding and child abuse, now face felony homicide and felony child neglect in the death of a 7-month-old baby whose remains were found in 2011.

The new charges stem from an investigation at the couple’s single-wide trailer in Waterview Mobile Home Park in Gloucester, where deputies, in 2011, discovered the couple’s 6-year-old daughter in a crib which had been made into a cage. She was emaciated, naked and wallowing in her own feces… unable to speak or straighten her legs. She weighed just 16 pounds, and according to doctors at that time, she was within a week of dying of malnutrition.

That’s also when they found the remains of the infant boy, buried in the backyard.

At that time, investigators considered charging the parents for the death of the 7-month-old baby boy but the charges were not presented to a grand jury because of a lack of physical evidence.

That evidence has now been discovered, and both Gores appeared in court on Tuesday to face the new charges.

Both are currently already serving lenghty prison sentences. Now, they face even more time, and perhaps life sentences if convicted of the new charges.
