Mathews Sheriff’s Deputies Respond To School Weapons Incidents

The Mathews County Sheriff’s Office was called to 2 schools for students bringing weapons on campus. On Feb. 28 deputies responded to Thomas Hunter Middle School on a report a student had a knife. The student was detained and questioned resulting in a fixed-blade knife being recovered. The next day a teacher at the High School notified the sheriff’s office and staff of a student who dropped a box cutter out of his book bag. Charges are pending in both incidents.
