Mathews Gardening Group Addressing Erosion

The Mathews Gardening Group is taking action to address erosion issues on the Mathews Court Green. Stan Grice, the group’s president, is leading efforts to find solutions and secure funding for the project. The rain gardens, initially planted by Dr. H. Alexander “Sandy” Wilson and Dr. Anne Leddy Wilson, are experiencing erosion due to heavy rainfall and lack of gutters on historic buildings. Grice aims to involve local community members, seek grant funding, and hire a professional landscape designer to tackle the problem. The goal is to restore and preserve the historic site before the VA250 celebration in 2026.
