In these days of mega stores and online shopping, it is rare to find a thriving family-owned business right in our backyard. Burkes Fine Jewelers, an iconic local business located in Kilmarnock, is celebrating their 45th anniversary this month. Burkes was founded on August 25th, 1969, by Dorothy and Fred Burke, Sr. when they purchased Finney’s Quality Jewelers.
In 1988 Fred Burke, Jr. and his wife, Karen, took over the business. Now Burkes has grown to a third generation family-owned business with the addition of Fred and Karen’s son Justin and his wife, Melissa.
Burkes Jewelers will begin their anniversary celebration with a flash sale at their store on Main Street in Kilmarnock from 9 to 9:45 am on Friday, August 22nd and will also hold a customer appreciation day on Saturday, August 23rd.
