Limits Set For Medical Debt Collection

Governor Glenn Youngkin has signed 107 bills into law, set to take effect on July 1. Among them, HB34 which places a cap on the statute of limitations for medical debt collection. Collection agencies now have up to three years from the initial invoice due date to pursue outstanding medical debts, preventing prolonged harassment of debtors. However, it’s important to note that this limitation excludes medical debts stemming from services administered by the Department of Medical Assistance Services.
