Kiwanis Kids Foundation in Lancaster County awarded a $500 grant to the Northumberland Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, “PAWS to Read.” The funds were used to subsidize the purchase of a portable sound system.
“With more than a 700 percent increase in participation in 2013, amplifying children’s programs became a major concern for this summer,” said Jan Bates, Coordinator of Children’s Programs for the Northumberland Public Library. “This grant will help purchase this much-needed sound equipment for our 2014 program. We are very grateful that Kiwanis supports children’s literacy in Northumberland County.”
Without the help of this grant, a Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts Grant and a Dollar General Grant, the library would be unable to meet the demands created by this exploding program, Bates noted.
