It's a Slow Crab Season So Far

It’s not a good crabbing season so far. Many area fish houses are saying that they can no longer take any more hard crab orders because they just plain don’t have crabs.

Joey Williams is the Vice-President of the Virginia Watermen’s Association, and he told the Southside Sentinel that he hasn’t taken any orders in more than two weeks, and Williams says he has never, ever, seen it so slack, with prices so high.

Right now, Jimmies are bringing between $120 and $180 a bushel, but that’s little consolation for crabbers who say no matter what the price is, if you can’t catch any crabs the price is meaningless.
