Investigation Launched Over ‘Threatening’ Graffiti

According to a report in the Gazette Journal, racist graffiti was found in a bathroom at Mathews High School. The paper reports that the Mathews NAACP is criticizing the school administration for what it says was a slow approach to the response after the graffiti was found etched into a stall in one of the boys’ bathrooms. NAACP chapter president Edith Turner said it was a threat against African-Americans. School officials say a surveillance camera down the hall from the bathroom was out of order and that has prevented them from being able to identify the perpetrator. For now, steps are being taken to ensure students’ safety and a joint investigation is underway with law enforcement including the Mathews Sheriff’s Office.
