WASHINGTON (AP) – Wedding season is warming up, and odds are you can trace most of those nuptials to a similar start.
An Associated Press-WE tv poll finds that 8 of 10 married people who tied the knot within the past decade say the man proposed.
If that seems predictable, consider this: Three-fourths of Americans say it’s acceptable for a woman to propose marriage.
Yet few women are doing so.
Only about 5 percent of current marriages started that way, and the figure didn’t go up among unions within the past decade.
Attitudes actually seem to be moving in the other direction, with young adults more likely than their elders to disapprove of women proposing to men.
More than one-third of those under age 30 say it’s unacceptable for women to propose.
