How High’s The Water? Rates Are Rising!

If you live in Urbanna your rate for the minimum usage of 6,000 gallons of water over a two month period is $45.22. But if you are on the Urbanna water system but don’t actually live within the town boundaries, your rate is higher, $83.08 for the minimum usage of 6,000 gallons in two months, and $8 per 1,000 gallons above the minimum. That means if you use 8,000 gallons of water over a two month period your bill will be just shy of $100. Urbanna’s water rates increased by 5% last July, and more increases appear to be just over the horizon too. Meanwhile, the The MWA’s new rates that went into effect on February 1st, add up to $55 for the first 4,000 gallons each month, and one cent per gallon over the 4,000 gallon minimum. Aqua Virginia’s current rate for 4,000 gallons per month is $49.51. So, using 8,000 gallons in two months would cost $99.02. But a so-called “customer charge” of $36.62 brings that total to $135.64. Aqua Virginia is also currently seeking an increase of about 33%.
