Homeless Decline

The number of homeless Virginians decreased by nearly 8 percent in the last year to 7,020 people.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s office says the decrease follows several years of focused work on tack-ling homelessness in Virginia. The numbers are based on data collected in a 24-hour snapshot of homelessness and compiled by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.

According to The Richmond Times-Dispatch, the state saw a nearly 11 percent drop in family homelessness. Virginia also saw veteran homelessness fall 14 percent.
