Historic Schoolhouse Opening For Tours

The Woodville Rosenwald School Foundation invites everyone to an “OPEN School HOUSE” event at the Woodville School on Route 17 in Gloucester. It’s set for this Sunday, from 1 to 4pm at the Woodville School, 4310 George Washington Memorial Highway in Hayes. The event is being held to celebrate a significant milestone—the schoolhouse has received its official Gloucester County Occupancy Permit after recent renovations. A little history now… The Woodville School, built in 1923-24, served as a two-teacher school for African American students. It’s the only remaining Rosenwald school out of six constructed in Gloucester County during the 1920s. The foundation purchased the property to preserve its history for the benefit of the community. Refreshments will be provided, and you can take a tour of this historic African American schoolhouse. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore a piece of Gloucester’s past!
