The last statue of a Confederate war hero is removed from the state capitol. According to published reports the statue of General A.P. Hill was removed on Monday. Richmond served as the capital of the Confederacy for most of the Civil War. The Mathews County Board of Supervisors is considering giving the Confederate statue on the courthouse green to a private organization. Last year county residents passed a referendum calling for the statue’s removal.
