Virginia State Police are investigating A fatal chain reaction crash in Gloucester County. That crash happened August 24th at about 2:00 PM on Route 17 at the intersection of TC Walker Rd. A tractor trailer traveling South on Route 17. Came upon stopping traffic and could not break in time.
The tractor trailer rear-ended in 1989 Chevy Beretta. The impact of the crash pushed the Chevy into the back of a flatbed trailer being towed by a 2012 Ford F-250 truck.
The driver of the tractor trailer, 41-year-old Richard E Hutchinson, right, the second of Newport News, VA. Was charged with reckless driving. The driver of the Chevy, 25-year-old Ashley and Chapman of Gloucester, VA died at the scene.
A passenger in the Chevy was transported to Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News, VA for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Ford, 26-year-old Michael Schlemmer of Gloucester, was not injured in the crash.
