E-ZPass Errors

Dozens of drivers in the Hampton Roads area who use E-ZPass transponders at the Downtown and Midtown tunnels reported they got bills this week, many for tunnel trips in February.

The pay-by-plate bills notified drivers they would have saved a certain amount of money if they used E-ZPass and included photos of their license plates. That type of bill is supposed to go to drivers who do not use the E-ZPass transponders. The problem is, each of these drivers already had E-ZPass.

E-ZPass reports that they received approximately 20 complaints about the bills, which they say could be caused by an E-ZPass reader at one of the tunnels that was not working in February, but has since been replaced.

Drivers who receive the bills should contact ERT Customer Service and provide their account number to have the fees removed.
