Continuing a discussion regarding overtime deputies patrolling Irvington, Mayor Julie Harris said a roster of deputies has been developed by the department and that their scope of work has been defined to monitor speed, other moving violations and general law enforcement. According to Harris, a memorandum of understanding between the town and police department states that shifts should be at least four hours with up to four deputies on schedule. Each deputy would like to work about 20 hours a month, Harris said. Councilman Phil Robinson said 80 hours a month is twice what the town needs, saying he doesn’t want Irvington to become “a police town.” He moved that beginning in November, aggregated hours are not to exceed 40 unless otherwise authorized by council. The motion passed, 3-1.
