Deadly fire in Kilmarnock – PHOTOS

Lancaster County officials continue to investigate a deadly Tuesday morning fire that destroyed multiple businesses and apartments on Irvington Road. The Lancaster Sheriff’s Office says the first report of the fire came in about 3:40 AM. Fire Chief Roy Hall told WTVR-TV that firefighters were on the scene within three minutes, and found two apartments fully engulfed in flames. Wind helped to spread the flames to four nearby businesses and five other apartments.Seven apartments in total were damaged by the fire.

Investigators say one person was found dead in a downstairs studio apartment of one the buildings. The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of family. The businesses that sustained serious damage include C&D Music Northern Neck Burger and the Jeanery.

The Red Cross says they are working with officials to figure out the scope of the damage and are ready to assist the residents of the multi apartment complex.

Four local fire departments including crews from all three Lancaster units responded to the scene.
