If you are planning to do a little cleanup around your place, listen to this. The Virginia Department of Forestry’s 4 pm Burning Law will go back into effect next week. The law goes into effect this Thursday, February 15th, and it will remain in effect through April 30th. The burn ban that takes effect each year at this time, means burning is allowed only between 4pm and midnight and only as long as the burner takes proper precautions and attends the fire at all times. Otherwise, there could be serious legal and financial implications. Violation of the Burning Law can carry a fine of up to $500. It goes into effect every year here in Virginia, because fires are more likely during late winter and early spring, due to elevated wind speeds along with the lower relative humidity. Fuels on the forest floor are also extremely dry right now.
