Brat Kicks Off Campaign

Dave Brat is kicking off his general election campaign after his upset victory against House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the 7th District’s Republican primary.

Brat attended a private breakfast Tuesday but organizers said he was not a speaker at the event. The breakfast was closed to the press. He gave brief remarks to reporters however before the breakfast, where he said he’ll be campaigning on a message of promoting “economic prosperity” in the general election.

Brat spent much of last week in his home avoiding media attention following his victory over Cantor. Brat is an economics professor at Randolph-Macon College. He’s set to face off against Democrat Jack Trammell, who also teaches at Randolph-Macon, in November.
