Bob Mcdonnell Testifies

Former Gov. Bob McDonnell told jurors Wednesday that the former CEO of a dietary supplements maker did not get special treatment from his administration. McDonnell said Star Scientific founder Jonnie Williams got little more than routine access. the former governor started his much-anticipated testimony Wednesday. Along with his wife, Maureen, the McDonnell’s accused of accepting more than $165,000 in gifts and loans from Williams in exchange for promoting his company’s products.

Williams was given immunity to testify for the prosecution, saying he showered the McDonnell’s with gifts and loans to convince them to help him gain acceptance and state-backed research for his company’s tobacco-based anti-inflammatory product. The former governor’s lawyers say that Maureen McDonnell acted largely on her own to promote the product.
