9 Killed On Virginia Roads During Holiday Weekend

9 people were killed on Virginia highways over the Independence Day weekend. That is fewer than during last year’s 4th of July statistical period. Troopers arrested around 70 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and ticketed close to 4,300 speeders. 165 drivers were cited for violating Virginia’s year-old “hands free” law. Fines resulting from tickets issued by State Police go directly to court fees and the state’s Literary Fund.
