    Northum­ber­land County saw the return of ferry ser­vice over the week­end that had been miss­ing since Jan­u­ary. The Sunny Bank Ferry on Route 644 resumed oper­a­tions after being down for main­te­nance since Jan­u­ary. Dur­ing the break, the ves­sel was dry-docked for paint­ing and main­te­nance. Cus­tomers will also enjoy a new vehi­cle ramp that was installed to make adjust­ments to the tides eas­ier for staff members.

    A vet­eran Vir­ginia State Trooper has announced his can­di­dacy for the Lan­caster County sheriff’s job. Patrick McCranie is also a two-term mem­ber of the Lan­caster School Board and will seek the Repub­li­can nom­i­na­tion. Cur­rent sher­iff Ron­nie Crock­ett plans to retire at the con­clu­sion of his cur­rent term after over 30 years in the posi­tion. McCranie has spent over 25 years on the state force.
