    Stacy Lee has been named the Teacher of the Year for Northum­ber­land schools. Lee teaches at Northum­ber­land Mid­dle School and was nom­i­nated along­side Jen­nifer Saun­ders for ele­men­tary grades and Javonda Ash­ton for high school. Lee began her teach­ing career in Lan­caster County but has taught in Northum­ber­land for over 18 years. She also teaches Eng­lish at Rap­pa­han­nock Com­mu­nity College.

    The Glouces­ter County Sheriff’s Office is ask­ing for the public’s help in locat­ing two men who robbed a local com­puter store over the week­end. Sur­veil­lance footage shows two white males in hood­ies, gloves, and ban­dana masks hold­ing up the Frank­tron­ics store on George Wash­ing­ton Memo­r­ial High­way in Hayes.     Rich­mond County, along with over 560 vot­ing precincts in Vir­ginia, is going to need new vot­ing machines after state inves­ti­ga­tors decer­ti­fied the equip­ment based on com­plaints received dur­ing the 2014 elec­tion. The machines would have to be replaced before Novem­ber elec­tions for around $91,000.     The West­more­land 4-H pro­gram is look­ing for vol­un­teers to help staff a com­mu­nity sim­u­la­tion event for 8th-graders at Mon­tross Mid­dle School on May 1. The event is called Real­ity Store and teaches stu­dents finan­cial lit­er­acy. Vol­un­teers play the roles of com­mu­nity lead­ers and mem­bers and inter­act with stu­dents in the sim­u­la­tion.     Over the week­end, a 42-foot crab boat tran­si­tion­ing from New­port News to Glouces­ter was hit by a wave the flooded the engine com­part­ment, dis­abling the ves­sel. The crew of one adult and two teens called 9–1-1 for assis­tance. The Coast Guard along with state and local res­cue teams were able to secure the boat and treat one teen for motion sickness.
