CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – A police investigation that produced no evidence of a horrific gang rape at the University of Virginia is far from the final word on how the school responds to sexual-assault allegations.
The highly regarded public university is still awaiting a review by an independent counsel.
U.Va. also is under scrutiny by an accreditation association and the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights.
The Rolling Stone report last year on the alleged gang rape also gave rise to a state task force on campus sexual violence, which is expected to report its findings in a few weeks. The magazine report, meanwhile, is the focus of a professional review.
