Mathews School Board Approves 2015–16 Budget

Mathews County Schools approved its budget for the 2015–16 school year last week. The county will likely provide less money for schools, though the school board proposal includes less than a third of the $96,000 reduction suggested by Superintendent Dr. David Holleran. The difference in budgets lies in salary increases for teachers and other school employees, with the school board adding a 1.5 percent raise on top of a scheduled salary step whereas Holleran included the step in the 1.5 percent amount. Now, the budget goes to the Board of Supervisors for consideration.
