Tappahannock Police have arrested three people involved in a counterfeiting ring involving U.S. currency. The bills were passed at Wal-Mart on Tappahannock Blvd. on August 13 and 15. Police, along with the Essex County Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants at two different apartments in Tappahannock, where evidence related to counterfeit currency was seized.
Those arrested include 29 year old Marcia Smith of Tappahannock, who is charged with grand larceny, felony uttering a false note, misdemeanor possession of counterfeit currency, and petit larceny. 55 year old Collista Smith of Tappahannock, is also now charged with grand larceny, uttering a false note and misdemeanor possession of counterfeit currency. 31 year old Michael West, Jr. of Tappahannock, was also charged with grand larceny, uttering a false note, and felony possession of counterfeit currency. A fourth suspect, 32 year old Aron Thorne of Hustle, remains at large. Thorne has been charged with three felonies connected with the case.
