Guitarist Tom Euler’s powerful and thoughtful playing style has quickly led to him becoming known as “the young guy with the old soul”. The 20 year old singer/songwriter from Hartfield, VA made his way onto the Hampton Roads blues scene after meeting blues favorite Bobby “Blackhat” Walters through mutual friend Brian Carmone. With encouragement from Bobby, and musicians Larry Berwald, and Rich Ridolfino, Tom was soon seen out playing with Bobby and the guys as well as the Jukes Boogie Trio. A few months later, he was asked to step in as lead guitarist for the Bobby “Blackhat” Blues Band.
Tom also fronts the Tom Euler Trio with bandmates, Max Parker on drums, and Wes Mallory on bass. He is drawn to many music genres from blues, rock and pop, to celtic and classical.
In early 2014, Tom entered jazz legend Lee Ritenour’s global guitar contest, the Six String Theory Competition. After the judging by some of the world’s greatest guitarists, Tom made the finals, ultimately landing in the top 5 for blues players among entries from 48 countries.
Tom was happy to then go on to compete and win the Natchel’ Blues Network’s 2014 Blues Challenge as a member of the Bobby “Blackhat” Blues Band, earning them a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2015 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. Out of 117 competing bands, The Bobby Blackhat Band was one of only 48 bands to make it to the Semi-Final round of the IBC. As a first-time competitor, Tom had the chance to meet people and acts from around the world. The unique opportunity to perform on some of Beale Street’s legendary stages in the company of world class musicians is a huge accomplishment and an experience he is not likely to forget any time soon!
Tom was named the winner of the 2015 Sea Level Singer/Songwriter Emerging Artist Contest which is sponsored by
Tidewater Arts Outreach in Norfolk, VA. Tom is honored to have been chosen for the top award among the 9 other fine semi-finalists and happy to have made new friends in the process!
